Blizzard is entering the realm of the multiplayer shooter next year with Overwatch, which is set to be a $60 game (a $40 version will be available exclusively for PC) which will offer additional content for free after launch. However, there has been some talk of the developer possibly using microtransactions in the game if additional funding is needed, and now Eurogamer has spoken with the game’s director Jeff Kaplan regarding the issue.

When asked about possible microstransaction in the game, Kaplan claims that Blizzard hasn’t firmly decided “whether there’ll be additional monetisation after launch.” This is largely due to the fact that they are unsure of how popular the game will be when it launches, and they want to wait and “see what sort of player base [they] end up with.” He goes on to say that the main focus is to first ensure that the game is as good as it can be at launch, and then worrying about sales after that.

Overwatch is set to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in the first half of 2016. Despite the launch on both consoles and PC, the game will not support cross-platform play. Another beta for the game is currently planned to release for all platforms in mid-to-late January 2016.
