We had great memories of the first Overwatch game, released in 2016. The game was trendy then, but its popularity slowly extinguished. We’ve seen many updates for the game’s revolution, but the studio decided to make an entirely new game to get back to the good days. After a long beta process, Overwatch 2 is here, but the first game won’t be with us anymore. A few players waited until the last seconds to be with the game at its funeral. Luckily, one of them recorded a screen video, and here’s the moment of Blizzard’s Overwatch 1 before servers go offline.
Blizzard Shuts Overwatch 1 Down Servers
The game’s servers are shut down, and it’s impossible to play anymore. The other features are also disabled for the game, and you can’t even reach its store page anymore. Everything’s now on Overwatch 2, which has significant changes. The game also showed a message on the main menu: “Even the best journeys end, but a new one is right around the corner. Thank you, heroes! See you October 4th!”. See you on the other side.”
Here’s a screen capture that shows the game’s death:
Overwatch 2 had a beta process that included a few steps. It was a long process for the game, but the beta is finally over. Servers should be online at different times for different zones, but they should be online on October 4. The game keeps the fundamentals from the first game and adds the best maps we’ve seen from the developers we saw with time.
With the sequel’s public release, we might expect another trending wave for Overwatch. The first game had a grand launch at that time. Many things have changed for online games since 2016, but the expectations are high for Overwatch 2. The naming is one of the reasons why we’re excited.
