We knew World of Warcraft’s newest expansion was a hit, but Activision has released sales figures that describe what a runaway success Shadowlands has quickly become.
On its first full day of release, Shadowlands sold more than 3.7 million copies, which Blizzard describes as “the fastest-selling PC game of all time industry-wide.” Appropriately enough, Blizzard was the previous record holder, selling 3.5 million copies of Diablo III on its own launch day.
Here are a few other takeaways from the press release, which can be read in full at Activision’s website:
- In the months before Shadowlands, World of Warcraft saw its highest number of subscribed players compared to any previous expansion.In the same period, there were more players in Azeroth than at any time in the last ten years.Total player game time has almost doubled compared to the same period in 2019.
