Blackbird Interactive has been working on the next step in Real-Time Strategy for almost a decade. Despite failing to secure the rights to the Homeworld IP, Gearbox Publishing has been in a partnership for some time. They’ve thankfully been kind enough to allow them to push the boundaries of RTS games. Yet, while the last release in their history is almost 6 years old, Homeworld continues on. With the 2019 announcement of Homeworld 3, many fans and RTS players were understandably excited. However, the global pandemic has made steady progress difficult for developers. While the gameplay teaser shown this past December was promising, it seems fans will be waiting much longer until we finally see a release date. As the pandemic eases and 2022 closes in on the summer, many are reevaluating their expectations for the remainder of the year. Thus, in an announcement tweet today, Blackbird Interactive is delaying the release of Homeworld 3 to a currently unknown date in 2023.

Why is Blackbird Interactive Delaying Homeworld 3 to 2023?

While the tweet text reads the excitement of their fans, unfortunately, tough decisions have to be made daily. When it comes to releasing a new game, those decisions can only be more and more difficult as time goes on. Yet, the statement reminds fans of the game developers’ commitment to the game and their passion for working on the title. Yet, this year might not be completely devoid of new Homeworld 3 news. The team does reveal that more news will be shown later this year. Stating that the current plan is for Gamescom 2022 later this summer to reveal the deepest look yet. Hopefully, this means a much clearer look at both the gameplay and the visuals. The teaser shown at The Game Awards last year was spectacular, but there is definitely more waiting to be seen.
