Marvel is teasing its upcoming Captain America & The Winter Soldier Special #1 with a look at Black Widow’s Return. The special, expected next month, picks up in the aftermath of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5. Some preview panels reveal Natasha Romanova AKA Black Widow is back in the fray, alongside a made over Bucky Barnes.

Why Does Black Widow Return?

The events of Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #5 saw the culmination of Steve Rogers digging into the Outer Circle. As part of that, the issue saw Bucky Barnes shoot Steve Rogers in order to murder one of the villains within the mysterious organization. Now, thanks to CBR, we see some of the aftermath to that in these preview panels. Specifically, Black Widow returns, hopefully, to help stop this organization and Bucky Barnes is sporting a whole new look.

In the preview showing off Black Widow’s return, the super spy is shown in her iconic black suit. She is in a room surrounded by a large screen showing several photographs and documents. It appears the sometimes-Avenger is trying to piece together the mystery of the Outer Circle.

What Do We Know About the Special?

A synopsis for the special doesn’t offer too much information on what we can expect. It simply states that “Power. Money. Machine. Love. Revolution. The 20th century progressed at a more rapid pace than any other in history but not without help from the shadows”. The issue comes from writers Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing, as well as Kev Walker. The issue explores the origins of this Outer Circle. Plus, the future status of the Winter Soldier AKA Bucky Barnes hangs in the air.

Speaking of the Winter Soldier, the issue also shows off a new look for Bucky Barnes. Carmen Carnero designed a brand new look for Steve Rogers’ partner. The look, complete with man-bun, was shown off at this year’s NYCC.

Meanwhile, this special leads into next year’s big Cold War event where Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers join forces to fight the Outer Circle.
