Black Panther wasn’t shown off at the War Table for Marvel’s Avengers on Tuesday, but that doesn’t mean he’s not coming.

In fact, the way that Crystal Dynamics decided to handle their tribute to the actor who made the role famous in cinema, appears to confirm the character is coming at some point.

Starting off the War Table, the event held a moment of silence for Chadwick Boseman, who passed away late last week after a four-year bout with colon cancer.

Further along into the presentation of Marvel’s Avengers, there were more tributes to Boseman. It was the announcement that the developers changed what they were going to show that caught people’s eyes though.

Alongside a digitized symbol of the Black Panther, Crystal Dynamics announced they had altered what they were going to show at the presentation. Over in Resetera, users quickly took to the forum to explain there had been quite a few devs and other staffers who were hyping what would have been a heck of a big announcement.

The game did get the addition of one new character that wasn’t known about yet. Kate Bishop is coming to Marvel’s Avengers in the very near future. Bishop is the daughter of Clint Barton (AKA Hawkeye) who is also being added later this year.

It’s entirely possible the development team originally had two heroes to announce, with Black Panther being the second.

The idea certainly makes sense. Boseman’s Black Panther was interwoven nicely into the Avengers on the big screen to the point where it almost felt a little weird he wasn’t part of the launch lineup anyway.

With the pain of his passing still fresh among his fans and the likelihood that he won’t be arriving until the end of the year anyway, there likely wasn’t a rush to make the official announcement.

Watch this space for updates though.

Marvel’s Avengers‘ official launch date is September 4, though those who preordered the Deluxe and PS4 Exclusive Digital Edition saw the game unlock on September 1.
