There have been many cases of incredibly long development times. Some reach their full potential years down the line, and some end up being a shell of what was promised. One such case of lengthy development cycles recently is Black Mesa. The Half-Life 1 remake from Crowbar Collective has been in development since 2005 when it was a simple mod. It’s gone through many different iterations of development, and that finally seems to be coming to a complete conclusion. Crowbar Collective has officially announced in a large letter to fans that the game is going into v1.0 on Thursday, March 5th.

The full version of the game includes everything that’s currently there, of course. That consists of the full game (plus Xen), and the multiplayer component. In addition to that, the game has received many tweaks in the gameplay that were noted by the community. Some areas are now less challenging and fairer for the player, and others are more challenging. This was done by redesigning some of the combat spaces along with upgrading the HECU and Vortigaunt AI. On top of the gameplay, there are now many more achievements (totaling at 50) for you to collect. Overall, this is the best state the game has been in yet.

As mentioned above, this news comes in part of a large letter posted by the Black Mesa team. It has a lot of insight into how this game went from its announcement in 2005, all the way to today in 2020. If that’s something you’re interested in, then you can read the full letter here. We at The Nerd Stash congratulate Crowbar Collective on completing their game. Its been a long but exciting journey, and it’s good to see the game finally released.
