It feels like just yesterday that I was eagerly waiting for Black Mesa’s Xen release. That game was one of my most anticipated in a while and did it ever deliver. The full release of Xen is amazing, with some seriously unique levels you’d expect from modern Half-Life developers. Now that it’s been out for a while, the team has been hard at work on some adjustments. Now, they’re ready to put the game the rest. The Black Mesa: Definitive Edition update is now available, offering various improvements to the game to make it that much better. You can check out their latest blog post here.

Black Mesa: Definitive Edition brings massive improvements to the game. Particularly, every aspect of Black Mesa has seen drastic improvements to both polish and art to look much cleaner and more finished. This is especially apparent in the mission Power Up, which has seen massive lighting and gameplay improvements as well. That’s not even mentioning the complete redesign of the second On a Rail map. Visually and in gameplay, Black Mesa: Definitive Edition makes the game feel like a much more finished product.

These join some other updates that, while smaller in scale, help things a lot. Black Mesa: Definitive Edition brings full workshop support, support for many new languages, and a massive list of bug fixes. If you had an issue with the game before this update, chances are it’s been fixed. Honestly, I’m glad to see the game get a fresh coat of paint, enough of one where I might have to replay. It’s easily one of my favorite games in recent memory, so I wouldn’t mind doing so.

Black Mesa is available on PC through Steam. There’s also a 50% off sale going on right now, thanks to the Steam Autumn Sale.
