Black Cat, Marvels very own version of Catwomen. Although a lot more playful with a fun tone as a Spiderman villain. BlackCat now has her very own series that started earlier this week. Spiderman fans are pleased with the new comic. Black Cat is the spunky, yet sultry villain whos alter ego is Felicia Hardy. Last heard of in any Spiderman comics. She was pining her way into Peter Parker’s life. Though now it seems she’s given that up to be her real cunning and unpredictable self. Black Cat #1 is a fun read. Very enjoyable, most side story character comics can drone on or lack any real punch to them — not this one. Writer Jed MacKay has done an excellent job.
Mackay wrote a storyline of Daredevil, ending the series in Daredevils death. How this writer went from lucid and dark to spunky and joyful shows his creative skills — starting the book with Felicia getting back to her thieving roots. Mackay doesn’t provide an origin story for her. I assume to get the ball rolling. This decision helps the book with intrigue. Pushing through to give you a storyline improved the book and you don’t ever think a story of a girl thief would be interesting. Mackay changes your mind in that retrospect. Though I do believe that the book lacked any background for the rest of the characters, I look forward to seeing everyone in the story grow.
Felicia enters the world of thieving as herself, because who else could be sumptuous enough to distract the guards in a heist. Her blonde hair, long legs, and sexy attitude could knock any man dead. However, how did Black cat get to be where she is? Now that the book is a success, I hope to see Jed MacKay display Ms. Hardy’s troubled life and maybe even a few of her connections to many other Marvel famed heroes. Issue #2 releases on July 3, 2019. See you in the stores.
Verdict: For a run of the mill villain storyline, Black Cat is an interesting character. I liked reading this, and I hope to see more. Although, I hope to get more background on all the other characters in the story and maybe more on Felicia Hardy herself. I finished the book quite pleased. The whimsical way Jed MacKay brings Black Cat to life gives you a fun and excitable hope in the remaining three books of the series. Jed MacKay with a job well done I give the book a good. I did want more, but it was a great start, and Felicia Hardy as a person and a thief will be gracing my bookshelf when the next book is released.
