Throughout its history, the Justice League has inducted quite a few surprising members. From Booster Gold to Firehawk, the plenty of unexpected choices have called the League a home. But the latest Leaguer comes as quite the surprise as Black Adam himself joins the Justice League team.
An enemy named Brutus has come from another dimension to claim the Earth for his own. Unfortunately for him, this foe also crossed Black Adam in the process. The previous issue revealed that Brutus comes from the birth dimension of Naomi, DC Comics’ brightest new hero.
SPOILER WARNING for Justice League #60
The latest issue of Justice League by Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, and Tamra Bonvillain starts where issue #59 left off. Upon learning of Brutus’ origins, Black Adam confronts the young Naomi directly only to be intercepted by Superman. After a short interaction, Naomi follows the powerhouses, and the trio head to the Hall of Justice to share intel. Once there, the team gathers to listen to Naomi’s history, only for the heroes to grow distracted by Adam’s presence.
The team moves to discuss the matter in private. Superman believes that Adam has been trying to help, and not just because Brutus is threatening Khandaq. Batman has already guessed that the Man of Steel wants to invite Adam to the League. Superman argues that Black Adam has lived a long life and has a unique perspective—something which team leader Green Arrow has been saying they need more of.
While Adam has a checkered past, this isn’t the first time he’s been a hero. You can see CBR’s coverage of his heroic lineage here. With his newfound Justice League membership and his film—which also features the JSA—now in production, Black Adam’s star is definitely on the rise.
