Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be the next entry into the troubled but rebounding DC Extended Universe. The film will release on February 7th, 2020 and is currently in post-production. But new action sequences are being overseen by a second unit while part of the movie is being edited. And the person in charge is the reason to get excited. Chad Stahelski, who helmed all three John Wick movies, is helping bring these sequences to fruition.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Stahelski will take an uncredited role. Cathy Yan, who is new to the action genre, is directing Birds of Prey. She will work alongside Stahelski for these new shoots. In addition to stunt work on movies like The Matrix and Deadpool 2, he has also acted as a second unit director in several high profile action movies. These include Captain America: Civil War and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was both critically and financially successful. It made around $320 million worldwide on just a $75 million budget.

So the guy knows what he’s doing. He also owns his stunt firm, 87Eleven, which has been working on Birds of Prey since production began. But Stahelski’s involvement will bring about newly designed action sequences instead of just improving on original scenes.

Birds of Prey will follow Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn after leaving the Joker and see her team up with the Huntress and Black Canary. Together, they will take on crime lord Black Mask. Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell also star. Margot Robbie will also reportedly star in The Suicide Squad, a soft reboot being written and directed by Guardians of the Galaxy‘s James Gunn. Though Harley Quinn has never been part of the team in the comics, she will be joining them this October.
