BIOS, Tom Hanks post-apocalyptic film has been delayed to 2021 amidst the latest reshuffling of release dates.
The Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures film Bios, by Game of Thrones director Michael Sapochnik and starring Tom Hanks was set to release in October 2020.
However, the COVID-19 induced production delays and shutdowns of theaters have meant that studios have been forced to rearrange their release schedules. The closure of theatres has also meant that many upcoming releases like Hank’s Greyhound and the thrilling Kevin Bacon starred You Should Have Left chose to go the on-demand route.
Now BIOS has become another in a long list of movies to be moved to next year in the wake of Warner Bros announcement on Friday, moving eight of its titles including No Time To Die, Tenet, Wonder Woman 1984, and the fourth Matrix movie.
The film centers around Hanks as Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that has left the world a wasteland. The terminally ill Finch has been living in an underground bunker for a decade with his dog, Goodyear. With his time running out, he creates a robot, Caleb Landry Jones (Get Out, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) to watch over his dog when he is no longer around to do so. The mismatched trio then set off on a journey into the desolate American West, as Finch strives to show his creation, who names himself Jeff, the joy and wonder of life and to teach him to become human enough to take care of Goodyear. And Goodyear himself must learn to accept and trust his new master.
Produced by Kevin Misher, Jack Rapke, Jacqueline Levine, and Powell, the screenplay for the film was written by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, and while disappointing that we won’t get to see it this year as planned, the film’s intriguing, emotional storyline will attract audiences come April 2021.
