Billy Ray and Adam McKay are collaborating for the film J6, about the January 6, 2021 attacks on the U.S. Capitol. Ray will write and direct the film. McKay will produce the film about the January 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol. Billy Ray is known for the HBO miniseries The Comey Rule, and Adam McKay has Oscar buzz from his latest film, Don’t Look Up. Todd Schulman, Josh McLaughlin, Cullen Hoback, and Shane Salerno will produce the film J6 as well. The script will be put in front of studios as soon as it’s done and talks have already begun for financiers. Ray initially wanted the film surrounding the January 6 attacks to be a miniseries. He had traveled to Washington D.C. three days after the attempted mutiny and conducted several interviews. Ray eventually turned 300 pages of scripted material into a 120-page feature film script.

Billy Ray and Adam McKay’s Film’s Subject Matter is Still Being Dealt With

Investigations by the House select committee are underway surrounding the planning and involvement of the 2021 assault. Billy Ray was shocked like many Americans as they watched the events unfold on live television. In fact, the world got to see the events of that day. Billy Ray and Adam McKay’s film J6 will show the events in a whole new way. As Ray was writing the script for the film J6, he watched Hoback’s HBO documentary Q: Into the Storm, which had Hoback witnessing the riot and filming it. It was Cullen Hoback that suggested Billy Ray bring his script to Adam McKay and Todd Schulman.

Even though McKay was busy with the production for Don’t Look Up, he was moved by Ray’s script for the film surrounding the January 6 attacks and his passion for the project. McKay wrote about how compelling Ray’s script was, saying:

Both Ray and McKay are no strangers to political films, so J6 will be sure to thrill.
