Robert Eggers is moving forward with his Nosferatu remake as Bill Skarsgård has been cast in the film, according to Deadline. In the report, Lily-Rose Depp (Silent Night) is in talks to join the project. The Northman director will helm the project and pen the script with Focus Features’ support. He will produce with Jeff Robinov, John Graham, Chris Columbus, and Eleanor Columbus.

The Nosferatu remake will follow a vampire, played by Bill Skarsgård, who stalks a young woman, played by Depp, in 19th century Germany. There are no details on what to expect from this reimaging of the 1922 film, but fans of the director’s horror films with The Witch and The Lighthouse and the evolution he had taken with The Northman to get a feeler of what to possibly expect. No other casting has been announced or confirmed.

Robert Eggers casts Bill Skarsgård in Nosferatu remake

Originally, Robert Eggers was set to have his Nosferatu remake with Anya Taylor-Joy and Harry Styles at Studio 8. Since that fell through and swapped to Focus Features, the casting has changed for his dream project that has been long in the making. Taylor-Joy has been vocal about her admiration for the director after starring in The Witch, his directorial debut and her first feature-length role, and this year’s The Northman. She wanted to work with him so badly that she even wanted to be the mermaid in The Lighthouse, but the filmmaker rejected her as it was not much of a role. In the Deadline report, she is not set to star in the vampire film.

Bill Skarsgård set up as a vampire in Nosferatu, is fitting for his known horror roles. Most recently, he was in Barbarian. His break-out role was as Pennywise in the two-part It adaption. He is currently set for John Wick 4 next year, Boy Kills World, The Crow, Emperor, and Gilded Rage. His latest film, Burn All My Letters, opened in Sweden last week on September 23.
