Other Plans For Bill

It has been reported that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates will step away from the company’s Board of Directors following a post from Gates himself. He also wrote that he would be focusing on more of his philanthropic efforts instead of working for the public board.

Not only will Gates retire from being on Microsoft’s Board of Directors, but he’s also dropping out from Warren Buffet’s board of Berkshire Hathaway. Gates stated that he and Buffet were friends before joining the board, and will “look forward to our continued partnership” in regards to their work on the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and The Giving Pledge campaign.

As time progressed, Gates was making moves by reducing his involvement with the company in order to concentrate on the Foundation. It was only six years later that he would decide to pass on the chairman of the board torch in 2014. He was succeeded by John W. Thompson, who then searched for Microsoft’s next CEO, Satya Nadella, that same month.

The Gates Won’t Close

While Gates will work to further his philanthropy, he wrote that he will still provide technical advice to the company and Satya. Leaving Microsoft entirely isn’t a part of Bill’s plan as he makes this step in life, and he only aims to further contribute to the company he’s proud and fond of.

Furthermore, his current priorities involve global health and development, combating the challenges of climate change, and finding other ways to better the world.

Nothing else was addressed aside from his farewells and best intentions, as Microsoft’s SEO Satya and independent board chair Thompson expressed deep appreciation and how honorable it was to work and learn from the 64-year-old business magnate.

Bill Gates founded Microsoft back in 1975 with his childhood friend Paul Allen, who unfortunately passed away in October of 2018 due to complications with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
