Beyoncé will remove an offensive lyric from one of her new songs titled ‘Heated.’ The song which was included in her newly released album ‘Renaissance’ has gotten lots of backlashes. The criticisms were mostly from people with disability, advocates, and other concerned social media users.

Beyoncé to Remove ‘Ableist’ Offensive Lyric From Album

The backlash from fans has forced Beyoncé to remove or reword the offensive lyric from the track. Renaissance, her seventh studio album, was released some days ago. However, this particular track, ‘heated,’ was called out for the inappropriate use of the word ‘Spaz.‘

In one of the verses of the song, the 40-year-old superstar used the word generously in a context that clearly upset some of her fans. The lyrics include:

Due to the meaning of the word according to the dictionary, people with disability and advocates in that category were unhappy. The situation influenced Beyoncé to remove the offensive word and replace it with something better.

Queen Bey, as referred to by fans, didn’t mean to use the word with harmful intent. A source from her camp revealed to Variety in a statement that the offensive word will surely be removed by Beyoncé. According to the source:

Two months ago, American rapper and songwriter, Lizzo, was called out for using the same word in one of her songs titled ‘Grrls.’ The lyrics which she also subsequently took off include:

Beyoncé’s fans’ outcry to remove the offensive lyric isn’t the only backlash she got on the Renaissance album which dropped on July 29. She was also accused of theft after sampling one of her songs, “Get Along With You,” in “Energy.”
