In Astria Ascending, you can build your characters how you want, but there is no respec option. Whatever choices you make are set in stone. You can grind more SP if you choose a skill early in the game that ends up being potentially useless, but you cannot change your jobs after choosing.

Ulan is the main character in Astria and is the tank of the group or a Paladin. This is obvious, having a massive shield and starting abilities such as taunt. Depending on the difficulty you are playing on, if you should make her a full tank or a Tank/DPS (damage per second) hybrid.

Do take note. You do need to take a fair few Support Star Nodes so that you can equip plenty of passives. If you don’t, you’ll nerf yourself as you progress through the game.

Ulan Best Jobs

Base Job

Ulan’s main job is to take the damage and keep it away from your party members, but mainly the casters. She can also do a bit of AoE (Area of Effect) DPS by using Wave, which is decent if all enemies are almost dead.

Then when a Support Job is acquired, after provoking, she can then buff herself and her allies, which is exceptionally handy in a boss fight.

Stat Priority

As a tank, you need a lot of HP, but you need a decent amount of MP—to use your abilities/skills—Taunt and Provoke. You also need to increase your DEF/MDEF equally, as it’s pointless to have health if you can’t take damage.

You need AGL (Agility) as well, as what is a tank’s purpose if you act last, and everyone is already dead or taken massive damage? And lastly, EVA(Evasion), as if you can avoid blows, your survivability will go through the roof, as nothing is worse than a downed tank.
