Groudon is one of the many legendary Pokémon you can catch and use in Pokémon Go. You can typically only capture it when it appears in five-star raids. After you’ve defeated and caught one that has ideal stats, you’re ready to figure out what type of moves you want to use. There are several options to pick from, and if you’re looking to compete in the Master League, it has to have the best moveset.

Groudon is a Ground-type Pokémon. It’s weak to Grass, Ice, and Water-type moves, but it’s resistant to Electric, Poison, and Rock-type attacks. For PvP, it has a maximum CP of 4,115, an attack of 225, a defense of 192, and stamina of 173. For PvE, it has an attack of 270, a defense of 228, and stamina of 205. It’s one of, if not the most, powerful Ground-type Pokémon in the game and trainers frequently use it in five-star raids and the Master League, so it’s a worthwhile Pokémon to capture.

These are all of the moves Groudon can learn.

Fast moves

  • Dragon Tail (Dragon-type) – 9 damage and 3.3 energy (3 damage per turn)Mud Shot (Ground-type) – 3 damage and 4.5 energy (1.5 damage per turn)

Charge moves

  • Earthquake (Ground-type) – 120 damage and 65 energyFire Blast (Fire-type) – 140 damage and 80 energyFire Punch (Fire-type) – 55 damage and 40 energySolar Beam (Grass-type) – 150 damage and 80 energy

Groudon has several moves to pick from. You want to stick to the attacks that give it an advantage, and for the fast move, that will be mud shot. It may not do the most damage in the game, but it can generate energy pretty fast. The more energy Groudon has, the more charge moves you can throw out against your enemy.

When it comes to charge moves, you have several options to pick from. When it comes to using a Fire-type move, fire punch is hands down the best option. It doesn’t require too much energy, and you can use it fairly often, likely taking out any Grass-type Pokémon an opponent uses against Groudon. Next, you want to pick between earthquake and solar beam. If you think Water-type Pokémon will be a huge problem when battling other trainers, you want to go with solar beam, despite it using 80 energy. Solar beam is an excellent attack to have in your back pocket when facing off against any Water-type. Although, if you feel more comfortable using another Pokémon to help protect against that, then go with earthquake.

Overall, Groudon is the heavy-hitter in the Master League. You can’t ask for a better legendary Pokémon to lead the charge against your enemies. If you see a Groudon five-star raid, try to compete with other trainers and capture one. You can’t have too many of them. Make sure it knows mud shot for its fast move and then fire punch and earthquake or solar beam for its charge moves.
