Professions in World of Warcraft are evolving in the Dragonflight expansion. Not only are primary professions like Engineering, Alchemy, and Leatherworking bringing back specializations, but gathering professions like Mining and Herbalism are getting in on the fun. Gathering professions can now be specialized into one of three selections by applying Knowledge Points. However, these Knowledge Points are non-refundable. So it’s best to know what you want to invest in before doing so!

Mining Process
Mining Process is for those that want to maximize what they gather. This gives additional Deftness, Finesse, and Perception when mining, and once fully leveled, players can mine while mounted. This path also offers Sorting, which increases Skill and Finesse when mining, granting more ore from each node. The Surveying ability improves the ability to find nodes and increases the chance of said nodes containing rare materials. Finally, Industrialization raises Deftness and improves your chances of finding Gems each time you mine.
Overall, this specialization pairs especially well with Jewelcrafting. Otherwise, due to the increased yields and additional gems found while mining, it can turn a healthy profit on the Auction House.
Metallurgy
Metallurgy allows miners to refine Serevite Ore, Draconium Ore, and Khaz’gorite Ore. This specialization is all about producing high-quality items. This can be paired with professions like Blacksmithing and Engineering for high-level gear, or you can sell refined items for profit.
Mastering the Elements
Gathering from mining nodes now can impact a temporary buff and debuff. Specializing in Mastering the Elements will give +1 Skill when mining Elemental nodes. Additionally, the Elemental nodes can also be overloaded. Once overloaded, the different types of nodes will provide different effects like giving additional Rousing Earth or summoning hostile Elementals. Once fully mastered, players can largely mitigate the negative effects of Elemental mining.
