It’s been many years since Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been released, but even to this day, it’s still such an amazing game that it deserves to be replayed again and again. We can guarantee that then Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 gets a release date, many people will be racing back to complete this stellar game again.
Best Horses in Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Due to Zelda: Breath of the wild being an open-world title, they are many mounts that can be acquired, but it’s really the luck of the draw if you find them on your travels of Hyrule. They are some truly magnificent horses that are the best horses you can find in the game.
There are two mindsets to go into this list due to the horses being stat-based, meaning they revolve around three different stats: Strength, Speed, and Stamina. Well, four if you count Temperament! You could say the best of the best is the horses with the maxed stats if you will; however, that doesn’t actually mean it’s the best.
The other mindset you can go into is aesthetic or role-playing. Which horse looks the best to you? Which horse do you think Link would choose? His trusty Epona, or the Royal Horse, due to his ties with Princess Zelda? Without further ado, here are the best horses in Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
We will split this up into two different sections, Wild Horses and Special Horses, for the sake of the list. We will say that you can change the horse gear to upgrade their stats; despite this, you cannot do this on a few horses.
Wild Horses
To acquire the best wild horses in Zelda: Breath of the Wild, head to the Ridgeland Tower region. In the area above the Maag No’rah Shrine. This is near the Serenne Stable.
The Wild Horses stats and color are completely random; luckily, the best horses are close to a stable. After one has been reined in, head to the stable, and check the stats. If not to your liking, release it, load your game, and find the one you want. It may take some time, but it is worth it!
If you purely want stats, keep away from the Spotty horses, as sadly, they have terrible stats!
The Fastest Horse
Yes, the fastest horse in the game is actually a Wild Horse, not a Special one. Keep in mind that this is for the fastest horse, not the one with the overall best stats. Want to get to A-B as fast as possible easy. Want to ride it into battle? Not so much as you don’t want the horse to die!

See what we mean about riding it into battle? With such low Strength, going against something strong and the horse has no chance of survival. Its Stamina might not be the best, yet this can be countered with using Endura Carrots or equipping the Ancient Briddle from the DLC.

The Best Horse
We say Best Horse because it’s above Epona in the stat department, which is no easy feat. Due to the player’s itches for exploration, it’s not often you don’t stop every five mins to check something out. If you are that type of person, aka most of us, this horse is for you.

Look at those stats. They are clearly the best stats in the game. However, as we said above, the Wild Horses stats are random, so it may take you a while to find a horsey with stats like this!

Special Horses
Epona

It’s hard to find a 3D Zelda title that does not star Epona in some way or form; sadly, it’s not in the game by default. Sure, you can spend hours and days exploring the world, trying to seek it, but alas, it’s impossible. The only way you can get the trusty Epona is via amiibo. Or, more specifically, the Smash Bros. Series Link amiibo.
If you do not have this amiibo, then you cannot get Epona!

Looking at the stats, you would have thought that right off the bat, Epona is one of the best mounts in the game, with the best stats, however, as you cannot upgrade her through the change of gear. She is the best non-upgradable horse in the game.

Link’s Default Horse
If you spend the entirety of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on foot and don’t even look at horses in the game, we wouldn’t blame you. Horses can’t climb mountains! You DO actually need a horse, though, for the end boss fight, so you’ll get given one, and this horse is the one shown in all of the trailers and a few of the memories in the game.

You can find this horse in Hyrule. Just head to the Taobab Grassland and Upland Lindor, and you’ll be able to find this pretty decent horse. Hey, you’re getting a horse for free, and it’s pretty decent!

Giant Horse
Sometimes in gaming, you want the fastest animal or the animal that can gallop for the longest. Though on the odd occasion, you want to find the biggest majestic horse you can find and plow into all of your enemies on your travels. If you want the latter, you can find the Giant Horse in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This horse is huge, and of course, it would be, as it resembles Ganodorfs beautiful steed.

The Giant Horse’s stats might seem a bit weird, yet due to it not having any stamina, it can gallop for well forever. Perfect for those following the road to get to A-Z. Also, due to the sheer size of this mammoth, riding into enemies damages them!

To catch this Giant Steed, head to the Taobab Grassland in the Lake Tower Region. Be warned you need a LOT of Stamina to rein in this massive beast. Very much like Epona, this horse’s gear cannot be changed.
Royal Horse
If you ever want to go riding into battle on the most stunning horse, then the Royal Steed is for you. The bond you had with Princess Zelda may be strong in your heart, so the Royal Horse can keep that feeling fresh in your mind, knowing that this horse is the descendant of the one used by the Princess many, many, many years ago.

To nab the white stallion, head to Taffa at Outskirt Stable, and they’ll give you the Royal White Stallion quest. Head over Manhala Bridge, and somewhere in that area is the Royal Steed. Sadly, this mount might not be the best in terms of stats. There is no denying that the horse is glorious.
