Hydro characters in Genshin Impact are fluid and versatile in combat, capable of using gentle waters to heal teammates or crushing enemies like a tidal wave. They’re great for setting up various Elemental Reactions by applying the Wet status, such as Electro-Charged or Frozen, and can smother any flames produced by Pyro users. These watery warriors even gain access to a buff through the presence of other Hydro characters—the Soothing Water Elemental Resonance.
Hydro pairs
The Soothing Water buff is centered around increased healing and reduced Pyro Damage taken by your team, allowing you to dance in the flames of battle. This protective buff can only be utilized through the Elemental Resonance, however, which means that you’ll have to include at least two Hydro characters on your team before benefiting from the following effects:
- Affected by Pyro for 40 percent less timeIncreases incoming healing by 30 percent
There are currently only a total of five playable Hydro characters in Genshin Impact 2.4, meaning your options are a bit more limited than with the other Elements, though more are sure to be added in the future. With that being said, there are still two pairs of Hydro characters that flow a bit better than others.
Sangonomiya Kokomi and Mona
Sangonomiya Kokomi and Mona are the first two Hydro wielders on this list, the esteemed Priestess of Watatsumi Island and wandering astrologer of Mondstadt, respectively. These two characters fill the role of Support best, with Kokomi healing your team as she drowns nearby opponents, while Mona provides distractions and afflicting enemies with debuffs.
- Character info: Kokomi, Mona
Kokomi’s Elemental Skill creates a Bake-Kurage avatar that will deal Hydro Damage to nearby opponents and apply the Wet status, along with healing your active character at fixed intervals. When using her Elemental Burst, however, Kokomi gains an increase to her Attack Damage and heals allies when opponents are hit with Normal and Charged Attacks. The damage increase and amount of health regenerated scales with Kokomi’s Max Health, so be sure to invest in that stat.
Mona’s Elemental Skill creates a Phantom of Fate, taunting and drawing in nearby enemies. The avatar will continuously deal Hydro Damage to nearby opponents, causing an Area-of-Effect Hydro explosion at the end of its duration. Mona’s Elemental Burst will immobilize weaker enemies, on the other hand, along with applying a debuff called Omen. This debuff increases the amount of damage taken by your foes, allowing you to quickly dispatch them while healing with Kokomi’s Burst.
Tartaglia and Xingqiu
The next pair on this list is Tartaglia and Xingqiu, a perfect pair if you’re looking for a Main Damage-per-Second and Support combo. Tartaglia is the main damage dealer between these two, overwhelming enemies with a barrage of arrows and Hydro attacks, while Xingqiu provides coordinated attacks and some extra Hydro Damage for support.
- Character info: Tartaglia, Xingqiu
When firing a fully charged arrow, Tartaglia applies a debuff to enemies called Riptide. When defeating opponents afflicted by this debuff, a Hydro explosion will occur and inflict the Riptide status on nearby foes. Riptide’s other properties will differ depending on whether you’re using his Elemental Skill or Burst, but still deals massive damage regardless of how its used. The effects of Riptide are as follows:
- Elemental SkillHitting an opponent unleashes a Riptide Slash, dealing Area-of-Effect Hydro DamageElemental BurstRanged Stance: Fires a Hydro-imbued arrow and applies the Riptide status to enemies, dealing Area-of-Effect Hydro DamageMelee Stance: Deals massive Area-of-Effect Hydro Damage to nearby enemies, triggering Riptide Blast and a secondary Area-of-Effect Hydro explosion
Xingqiu’s Elemental Burst summons Rain Swords that will circle your active character, protecting them while providing some extra firepower. Each time a character takes Damage, a Rain Sword will shatter and reduce the amount of Damage taken, along with healing your character a small amount. These swords will also attack alongside the character on the field, allowing you to quickly suppress and overwhelm enemies when combined with Tartaglia’s abilities.
Either pair can be a beneficial part of any team combination, all you need to do is pick the one that’s the right fit for you. And remember, these are just our picks from the characters currently available, so be sure to check back in as more Hydro characters are released for future updates!
