Genshin Impact has a massive roster of playable characters available in its 2.4 Update, along with six Elements to choose from, giving you quite a few options when it comes to building your team. There are tons of ways to mix-and-match Elements. If you build a team consisting of four different Elements, your team will even gain a handy defensive buff—the Protective Canopy Elemental Resonance.

Protective Canopy teams

The Protective Canopy buff focuses on raising your team’s Resistance to Damage, meaning you’ll be able to take some heavy hits without flinching. These mechanics for this Elemental Resonance are a bit unique when compared to the rest—instead of using two or more characters of the same Element, each member of your team must be wielding a different Element to benefit from the following effects:

  • All Elemental Resistance increased by 15 percentPhysical Resistance increased by 15 percent

There are currently 45 playable characters in Genshin Impact 2.4, and every single one has a place on any team. Each character is unique, bringing their own visual flair and style to battle. While there are many different combinations you could try out to activate this Elemental Resonance, two Protective Canopy teams have a bit more synergy than the rest.

Shenhe, Kaedehara Kazuha, Mona, and Zhongli

The first team making an appearance on this list consists of Shenhe, Kazuha, Mona, and Zhongli, four characters who are a stellar Main Damage-per-Second, Sub Damage-per-Second, and Support combo. Shenhe and Kazuha are this team’s primary and secondary damage dealers, respectively, while Mona and Zhongli act as great supports by providing distractions and creating shields.

  • Character info: Shenhe, Kazuha, Mona, Zhongli

Shenhe’s Elemental Burst creates an icy Area-of-Effect field, reducing enemies’ Cryo and Physical Resistance while periodically dealing Cryo Damage to any caught within its radius. Mona’s Elemental Skill creates a watery avatar that deals Hydro Damage to nearby opponents, taunting them and applying the Wet status, while her Elemental Burst increases the amount of Damage taken by enemies.

Together, Shenhe and Mona are capable of constantly afflicting your foes with Freeze, immobilizing them for a short time, while the debuffs they create allow Shenhe to shatter Frozen enemies. Kazuha’s Elemental Burst creates a whirlwind, causing Area-of-Effect Anemo Damage to enemies caught within its radius. It can then absorb another Element once per use, such as Hydro or Cryo, dealing Elemental Damage of that type.

For example, infusing Kazuha’s field with Hydro from Mona’s Elemental Skill will apply the Wet status to enemies, allowing Shenhe to then freeze them with her Elemental Skill and Burst. Zhongli rounds out this team as its defender—his Elemental Skill creates Damage-absorbing jade shields, while his Elemental Burst applies the Petrification status to enemies, stopping them in their tracks.

Raiden Shogun, Ganyu, Sangonomiya Kokomi, and Venti

The second Protective Canopy team is made up of Raiden, Ganyu, Kokomi, and Venti. These four work best as a Main Damage-per-Second and Support combo, with Raiden acting as the group’s muscle while the other three support her through Elemental Reactions. Ganyu can be built as a Sub Damage-per-Second, however, adding a little bit of extra firepower to your team.

  • Character info: Raiden, Ganyu, Kokomi, Venti

Kokomi’s Elemental Skill and Burst both have the effect of healing your characters while dealing Hydro Damage to nearby enemies, applying the Wet status in the process. Venti’s Elemental Burst, on the other hand, creates an Anemo vortex that will draw the surrounding opponents toward its center. Similar to Kazuha’s Burst, Venti’s vortex can absorb another Element once per use, dealing additional Elemental Damage of that type.

Ganyu’s Elemental Burst summons a massive Cryo Pearl to rain down shards of ice, continuously dealing Area-of-Effect Cryo Damage to enemies within its radius. This can be combined with Kokomi’s Hydro abilities to freeze your foes in place, giving Raiden the time to deal massive damage. Raiden’s Elemental Burst converts her Attack Damage to Electro Damage for its duration, allowing her to trigger multiple Superconduct and Electro-Charged Elemental Reactions with this team.

A good battle strategy for these characters is to use Venti’s Elemental Burst to group enemies together, then Kokomi’s Normal Attack, Elemental Skill, or Burst to infuse the vortex with Hydro. Next, use Ganyu’s Elemental Burst to create an Area-of-Effect Cryo field, dealing Cryo Damage and freezing enemies afflicted by the Wet status. Finally, use Raiden’s Elemental Burst to convert her Attack Damage to Electro Damage, causing Elemental Reactions to be triggered almost constantly.

Either of these teams are great options if you’re building a team based around Protective Canopy. All you have to do is pick the one that’s right for you. Remember, these are just our picks from the characters currently available, so be sure to check back in as more are released for future updates!
