Streaming on Twitch is a lot of fun, but when you start getting a good number of viewers to your channel it can get a little more difficult to keep up with what’s going on in chat. Thankfully, there are commands you can use that help with a variety of things. These are the best ones to know.

Automod commands are short instructions you type in that can either bring up information or execute certain protocols when needed. Each command below will have a description alongside it so you know what it is for. Don’t forget the forward slash!

Best Twitch Commands

  • /ban {USERNAME} - If someone has really pushed it too far then you can ban them using this command. Replace USERNAME with their tag to banish them from your channel/unban {USERNAME} - Similarly, if you manage to work things out then you can unban previously banned users. Do the same as above except with unban at the beginning/block {USERNAME} - This will block you from seeing a particular user’s comments in chat/unblock {USERNAME} - This command is for if you wish to unblock them at a later date/mod - This will show you all of the moderators for a channel/vips - This will show you all of the VIPs for a channel/user {USERNAME}  - This will allow you to open up a particular user’s profile without having to search for it/me {TEXT} - This will make your messages and written text a different color so that you can recognize yourself in chat more quickly/w {USERNAME} {MESSAGE} - This command will allow you to send a private message to whichever user you wish to talk to, it is also referred to as whisper/disconnect - This will allow you to disconnect from the chat server/timeout {USERNAME} [SECONDS] - If you have someone who is posting spoilers, or not adhering to your channel’s rules, you can put them in a timeout for a specified amount of time. Type in their username and the amount of time you want them in timeout for in seconds/slow {SECONDS} - If your chat is a getting a bit hectic for you to keep up with, or a user is deliberately spamming your messages, you can slow the chat down so it isn’t as constant /slowoff - Once you want the chat to resume at normal speed, use this command/subscribers - If you have been raided and don’t like the newcomers, you can make it so your subscribers are the only ones who can type in the chat/subscriberoff - Once things have calmed down again you can use this command to restore chat privileges to everyone, even if not subscribed/emoteonly - Use this command to make it so people can only use emotes in chat, this one can be really fun/emoteonlyoff - When you want people’s talky words back, you can undo emote only with this command/uniquechat - If you have someone who is copying and pasting generic spam into your chat, use this command to prevent people from repeating themselves/uniquechatoff - You can undo the unique chat with this command/clear - This command will clear the chat history
