The Sorcerer Supreme has taken to addressing the chaos around the highly-anticipated sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which promises to bring an even more bizarre plotline along with it. Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch recently teased expectations about the upcoming film by describing the movie as “busy and bonkers.”
An episode of WTF with Marc Maron invited Benedict Cumberbatch to share some insight as to what fans of the Doctor Strange can look forward to as they (somewhat) impatiently await the sequel that is set to arrive eight years after its prequel broke onto the silver screens. Through the interview, it is reconfirmed by Cumberbatch that he’s still involved with the project, though there isn’t much confidence coming from the actor that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is strictly a Doctor Strange sequel story.
“Yeah well, that’s part of the problem,” Cumberbatch said while elaborating on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness “there’s a lot of stuff going on.” From the vague-yet-alarming statement from Cumberbatch, it raises the question as to if the film may become too overstuffed with a clash of plotlines and stray away from the intended character arc for Doctor Strange. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, the additional insert into the Marvel Cinematic Universe will bring about the return of director Sam Raimi.
Cumberbatch went on to expound on his statement that was taken from the interview with Maron in the discussion about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. “…It’s like, “do I have a character arc in this? Is it working?” he said, “there’s great stuff for me to do in it. It’s very busy. It’s called The Multiverse of Madness and it’s bonkers.”
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now set to arrive in theaters on May 6, 2022.
