Dear Evan Hansen star Ben Platt has recently announced that he, along with Molly Gordon, Noah Galvin, and other on-stage favorites, will star in the upcoming comedy Theater Camp. Picturestart, the company behind the recent Netflix series Luckiest Girl Alive and Am I OK? on HBO Max, will produce the film.

Theater Camp will tell the story of a rundown theater camp in upstate New York; the camp itself has seen better days, but things take a turn for the worse when the camp’s beloved founder falls into a coma just before the camp’s summer session is due to begin, putting the entire establishment’s future on the line. Ben Platt is set to play one of the camp’s counselors, who must work together with the founder’s “bro-y” son to save their beloved camp. Theater Camp will also star Molly Gordon (Good Boys), Noah Galvin (The Good Doctor), Amy Sedaris (BoJack Horseman), Patti Harrison (Together Together), Owen Thiele (Dollface), Jimmy Tatro (American Vandal), Ayo Edebiri (Dickinson), Caroline Aaron (21 Jump Street) and Nathan Lee Graham (Zoolander).

How Ben Platt got involved in “Theater Camp”

According to Deadline, Theater Camp is a feature-length adaptation of a short film written by Nick Lieberman. Lieberman, who has directed many of Ben Platt’s recent music videos for Grow as We Go and Temporary Love, among a handful of others, will serve as the film’s director, while Platt, Gordon, and Galvin write the adapted screenplay. Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman will also co-direct, making this the pair’s feature-length directorial debut.

Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, and Julia Hammer will produce the film for Picturestart Studios. Regarding Theater Camp, Feig told The Wrap:

In addition to Picturestart, Topic Studios (The Climb) producers Maria Zuckerman and Ryan Heller will be joining the Theater Camp film crew, along with Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum, Alex Brown, and Mary Bundy from Gloria Sanchez Productions (Hustlers).
