Fans have reacted to the first trailer of Aaron Sorkin’s Being The Ricardos. The trailer was released on October 19, and it instantly caught the eye of both film buffs, and news-makers. However, the reactions to the trailer have not been positive. They were rather ‘boo-ing’ down on the film. Maybe the people expected a lot more from legendary actors like Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem in the I Love Lucy film.

How Did the Fans React to Being The Ricardos?

The trailer has received overwhelmingly negative reactions online. Scott Menzel of the US Entertainment tweeted: “We are all in agreement that BEING THE RICARDOS looks surprisingly unappealing right? Also, why is Nicole Kidman narrating a trailer about Lucille Ball? Yes, I know she’s playing Lucy but she sounds nothing like Lucy.”

Another movie buff tweeted: “The Being The Ricardos trailer gives me no hope that the movie will be worth watching.”

Some social media fans think that it is difficult to understand Kidman’s transformation into I Love Lucy star from the one-minute trailer, as her face is barely visible.

Another Twitter user took a dig at the casting of the film: “Being the Ricardos trailer trying to not show Nicole looking completely miscast”. This means that Kidman was chosen because she was famous and could carry the film, not because she actually looked like Lucy.

Another user took a dig on the trailer altogether. They pointed out that the makeup and costumes department did a lousy job. They also pointed at the wrongly done accents and voices of the actors: “Between this Halloween store wig, this being the only shot of Nicole Kidman’s face in the trailer, and no attempt to sound like Lucille Ball or Desi Arnaz, Being the Ricardos sounds like a winner.”

What Do Nicole Kidman and The Other Team Members Say?

In an interview with Variety earlier this year, Kidman said she was focused on getting Ball’s speech patterns exactly right. She said: “I’ve spent a lot of time right now studying Lucille Ball, because she has a very distinctive way of speaking.”

Critic Jenny Cooney, who praised Kidman’s acting chops and versatility, wrote on Twitter: “Can’t wait to see our favourite chameleon take on Lucille Ball!” The casting of the Lucy/Desi biopic also raised questions from fans. A Facebook video from Lucy Arnaz, a daughter of the couple and producer of Being The Ricardos,  in January responded to these reactions and reiterated that Sorkin’s film isn’t attempting to replicate the hit sitcom. She said: “No one has to impersonate Lucy Ricardo [or do] any of the silly things. It’s the story of Lucille Ball, my actual mother—not Lucy Ricardo—and her husband, Desi Arnaz, my dad—not Ricky Ricardo.”

Aaron Sorkin’s Being The Ricardos released its first teaser trailer on 19 October amid much anticipation, but it has been met with mixed reactions online. Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem star in Being The Ricardos as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, the stars of the hit 1950s sitcom I Love Lucy. Ball and Arnaz married in 1940, worked on the comedy show from 1951 to 1957, and then divorced in 1960.

It follows the actors through one week of filming I Love Lucy – from a Monday table read to a Friday shoot – as they deal with crises and obstacles that threaten their careers and relationship. In addition, Arnaz was reportedly discriminated against for being Cuban, and Ball defended his right to appear on the show.

Nicole Kidman had recently said that the film is “about Lucy and Desi and their relationship and their marriage”.

“It’s very deep”, Kidman told Variety.

Of course, it’s not at all okay to judge the film by the first teaser trailer. Aaron Sorkin. Nicole Kidman, and even Javier Bardem have been around the industry more than Twitter and other social media platforms. And they have been part of some of the most exceptional evergreen films. So, it isn’t completely alright to judge the film by what we see on the teaser trailer. This being said, the trailer was “actually impressive” for some users.
