We launched the Beebom Instant Tech News app back in May last year and the app was an instant hit among our fans. Thanks to the support of our fans, the app crossed 100,000 downloads in less than a year with a 4.8 rating on the Play Store to boot. We’ve been constantly working on the app since its launch, steadily improving the functionality with the help of your valuable feedback and paying close attention to the interesting feature suggestions that you’ve been sending us. For the last couple of months we’ve been working on a major update which introduces some of the most requested features to the app. The all-new Beebom app 2.0 has been available to beta testers for some time now, who’ve helped us polish out any issues with the latest update.

1. New User Interface

First and foremost, the new Beebom 2.0 has a spanking new UI which closely follows the Material Design guidelines prescribed by Google and gives users a more streamlined experience while they’re getting their daily dose of instant tech news.

As we mentioned earlier, the updated app has been divided into three new gesture friendly tabs. You can easily switch between the tabs by swiping left or right on the app’s home screen. Not only that, we’ve also introduced gesture based navigation within news stories and videos which offer a far more intuitive browsing experience. Within the news stories, you’ll be able to swipe left to go the next story and swipe right to go to the previous story. If you’re done reading news and want to head back to the home screen, you can just swipe down to go back.

3. Portrait Videos

With the new Beebom App 2.0 we’ve also introduced exclusive portrait videos for the Beebom App 2.0. The new portrait videos appear in the second tab and unlike our usual YouTube or Facebook videos, which are rather long, the exclusive app videos are crisp, yet informational.

Once you open a news story you’ll be greeted with a new bar which features the new ‘read more’ button, along with the bookmark, share and like buttons. This new read more button is a feature that has also been requested by a number of Beebom app users who’ve often asked us to provide more detailed versions of stories for a couple of popular news topics.

The read more button redirects to the Beebom website, where you’ll find a detailed version of that particular story, with additional information and insights that might not have been mentioned in the compact app version.

6. Widgets

As soon as we released the first version of the Beebom app, our inbox was flooded with requests to add a like button to the app. Well, now you’ve got what you asked for. The updated Beebom App 2.0 has a new ‘like button’ which can be found right next to the bookmark button on the news cards in the main feed and in the new bar which can be found at the bottom of each news story. The like button is also available in the videos tab and is placed next to the bookmark button at the bottom right corner of each video.
