Becky Lynch. Monday Night Raw. Pregnant. Not Kayfabe.
‘The Man’ Becky Lynch is Having a Baby
Announced live on the latest episode of Monday Night Raw, Becky Lynch is pregnant. In a heartfelt promo, Lynch informed last week’s Women’s Money In The Bank winner, Asuka, that she would be the new champion. Becky would be stepping away. She said “you go and be a warrior, cause I’m gonna go be a mother”.
Asuka celebrated her new championship as if fans were in the arena. This portion was a bit awkward and felt unnecessary. But, upon Becky telling Asuka why the title was changing hands the two embraced. Not as wrestlers or competitors, but as women. It was beautiful. Then Lynch’s theme song hit and she made her way backstage.
A Long Road To The Top
Lynch began her WWE journey way back in 2013. She debuted on WWE’s developmental brand, NXT, in 2014 and rose to fame as one of the “Four Horsewomen” (alongside Charlotte Flair, Sash Banks, and Bayley). She later joined the main WWE roster and became the inaugural SmackDown Women’s Champion at Backlash in 2017.
Lynch began filming The Marine 6 later in 2017, forcing her to step away from the ring. Upon her return, Lynch was angled in a new direction. She was an often overlooked underdog. She was “The Man”. And with that “a loud-mouth Irish woman who loves puns and toast” took off for stardom.
Fans rallied to her cause. It was amazing. Becky-Mania ran wild. “The Man” t-shirts were visible across arenas every single week. Becky went on to win the 2019 Women’s Royal Rumble match. Her fan-fueled rise culminated with the first-ever female headlined WrestleMania. WrestleMania 35 ended with a historic triple-threat match for both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch. Lynch won and her legacy was cemented.
A Happy Goodbye
In the year and change since Lynch’s WrestleMania 35 victory her steam has cooled off a bit. An organic trend in wrestling. But, she is still among the biggest draws in the business. She will surely be missed while gone, but right now she has something more important than pride or championships. She is going to be a mother. Lynch is going to be a fighting champion for her child for the rest of her life and this news is overwhelmingly heartwarming. We at The Nerd Stash wish Lynch and her fiance, WWE’s Seth Rollins, the best as the next chapter of their life together begins!
