The first trailer for BBC’s reboot of War of the Worlds‘ has been unveiled. An adaption of H.G. Wells’ classic novel, the trailer suggests a modern sensibility combined with an Edwardian period setting. Interestingly, this is the first adaptation of the novel not to be set in America. A refreshing change for those who wanted to see a version of War of the Worlds’ set in the book’s original setting.
The show will premiere in England on BBC One, with ITV Studios Global Entertainment handling international distribution.
War of the Worlds’ Production Team
Firstly, the War of the Worlds’ has some big names attached to the starring roles. Rafe Spall (The Big Short, The Ritual) and Eleanor Thomlinson (Poldark) are the people in question. However, we als0 have Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting) and Rupert Graves (Sherlock) starring alongside them.
Secondly, ITV-owned Mammoth Screen is producing the show, Deadline reports. Production was shot in Liverpool and was adapted by Peter Harness of Wallander fame. Craig Viveiros (And Then There Were None) is the director of War of the Worlds‘.

So, when will the series premiere? The show will premiere later this fall in the UK with the US release coming at a later point. As a British citizen, I think we as a nation are severely lacking in quality SciFi TV productions and sorely need another great show in the genre, like early Black Mirror. We will find out soon if that proves to be the case.
