The reality TV show “Survivor” hit the UK screens, attracting an impressive viewership before going off the air in 2002, after two seasons. The show, then picked up in the UK by ITV, followed some select contestants navigating life in the wild, surviving several challenges along the way in an attempt to unveil the ultimate survivor.

Two decades after ITV dropped the reality show, BBC announced a reboot, produced by the Banijay label, Remarkable Entertainment. It would air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer beginning next year.

What To Expect From BBC Survivor?

Per BBC revelation, the adaptation of Survivor would have twenty contestants compete in physical and psychological challenges on an Island. Along the way, several of these UK contestants would be eliminated until one person emerges as the ultimate survivor. The identities of the prospective contestants in the 16-part season, as well as the broadcast details, remain unconfirmed.

However, the network confirmed that Banijay’s Natalka Znak, executive producer of ITV’s Big Brother reboot would serve as executive producer. Former Fox executive Claire O’Donohoe would also join the ensemble as an executive producer alongside Paul Osbourne and Stephen Lovelock. Host information and other casting details about the show will be announced at a later date.

 

Why A Survivor Reboot?

Ahead of “Survivor” debut on BBC for the UK audiences, several players in the series expressed excitement, remaining positive that the new adaptation would be a hit. BBC Director of Unscripted, Kate Phillips shared her thoughts on the upcoming season, saying,

Znak also voiced her opinion about the reality show, describing it as the greatest gameshow on earth. According to her, the series has everything that makes a good show, including “adventure, drama, reality and the ultimate game.”

First created by Charlie Parsons, Survivor hit the screens in 1997. It has since become one of the most-watched reality shows in the world. The format follows a group of contestants divided into two tribes, each expected to survive on a lone Island, scaling through several challenges that add drama and excitement to the show. With over 50 adaptations surfacing worldwide in the last 25 years, all becoming hits in their own rights, Survivor UK is one show to look forward to.
