The gaming community was shocked when it was originally revealed back in 2012 that Bayonetta 2 would be coming as a Wii U exclusive. Since then, many have wondered if we may see a port of the original game on Nintendo’s console. Luckily, we got the answer to that question during this past week’s E3. Instead of the original Bayonetta receiving its own standalone release, it will be released at no additional cost alongside the retail version of Bayonetta 2.

With digital downloads becoming so prevalent in today’s modern gaming landscape, this news upset some that were planning on downloading the game rather than purchasing a retail copy. Regardless, it will be great to see the original game on the Wii U for the first time, along with some special additions that are exclusive to this new release.

Everyone knows Bayonetta’s signature look from the series, but now you will have the opportunity to dress her in a variety of different Nintendo themed costumes. These are not just simple skins, as each provides some special variations of the game. For instance, when equipping the Link themed costume from The Legend of Zelda series, Bayonetta will now be able to attack with the Master Sword, while also changing the currency in the games to rupees, complete with sounds effects when acquired.

Two others costumes that will be found in this release are based on Samus and Princess Peach, with the former giving Bayonetta Samus’ famous arm-cannon and the latter allowing the summoning of Bowser’s fist, instead of the usual demon, and the changing of in-game currency to coins.

Bayonetta 2 is scheduled for release exclusively on the Wii U sometime this coming October, so make sure to get the retail copy if you have interest in this upgraded version of the original Bayonetta as well. You can check out the Link costume above, as well as the other two costumes in the gallery.
