Fans are still kind of sore with Hideki Kamiya and Platinum Games about Bayonetta 2 coming exclusively to the Wii U. The developers have made it clear in the past and Kamiya recently clarified that without Nintendo, Bayonetta 2 would not exist.

Fielding fan questions via Twitter, Kamiya was asked whose idea it was to make Bayonetta 2 a Wii U exclusive. To which the developer responded “Idea? There was no way other than that.” While Bayonetta broke ground on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in 2010, there wasn’t a publisher ready to pick up the game for a sequel. Without that funding, Platinum couldn’t have made the game at all.

Obviously Nintendo sees something special in the franchise which was beloved by critics upon release, but without them, it’s not likely we’d see the game on any platforms. Bayonetta 2 is scheduled for a release exclusively on the Wii U in 2013.

Development for Bayonetta 2 was said to be going smoothly when Nintendo checked in with Platinum Games in the video below, but the developers have yet to dish any concrete details about what to expect from the sequel.
