We’ve already managed to glimpse Batwoman thanks to last years Arrowverse crossover, Elseworlds. This fall, we’ll see much more of the character as Batwoman gets her own show. Developed by Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries) Batwoman will air on Sundays back to back with Supergirl.
In the run-up to the fall release, The CW has furnished us with a poster and trailer for the show. First off, the trailer:
The trailer shows the events before Elseworlds as Kate Kane becomes the titular Batwoman. With Batman gone, Gotham has fallen into a bit of disarray (as if it could get worse) with no one protecting the citizens, and that’s where Batwoman comes in, she’s the new hero that we all deserve.
With Arrow ending after the next season there will be a big focus on Batwoman to replace it. The trailer has at least piqued my interest and I look forward to what the show brings to the table. Hopefully, we’ll see a gritty, enjoyable and realistic show bring the character to life. We can only wait and see.
Batwoman herself is played by Ruby Rose of Orange is the New Black fame, Orange is the new bat. The trailer also introduces us to a few other characters. We see her father, Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) as the head of Crows Private Security, a firm set up to try and reduce the crime that’s been running rampant in Gotham. Rachel Skarsten will play supervillain Alice and Camrus Johnson plays Luke Fox, the son of Batman’s favorite tech genius, Lucius.
Batwoman will add to the already quite generous selection of DC shows on the CW. I’ve already mentioned Arrow (until it ends) and Supergirl, they also currently air The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, with each of these shows combining to form the Arrowverse. On top of that, there’s Black Lightning which runs in a world of its own.
I look forward to seeing what Batwoman brings and, thankfully, there’s not long to wait as it airs in the fall.
