Besides Killer Instinct, one of the most requested titles by fans to be released, and one of the more rumored was is the Battletoads franchise. It seems that fans might finally be getting what they have asked for.

A recent filing in the US has been revealed to be one for a Battletoads, computer entertainment product filed by Microsoft. Upon it’s release in 1991 Battletoads grew a fan base for it’s insanely difficult levels, particularly the now infamous ‘turbo tunnel’ level that left fans crying on their controllers. It remains to be seen if a reboot of the franchise will attempt to retain this level of soul crushing difficulty. On a personal note, I remember Battletoads & Double Dragon which released in 1993. I didn’t play it until a few years later on my SNES and man that was a fun game, although hard at times as well.

It seems that the trademark could be a reboot or even a re-release of the original in an HD version. I guess we will have to see what Microsoft announces. Until then, no use getting all worked up about nothing right?
