There’s been a lot of chit-chat around the possible inclusion of a battle royale mode in the upcoming Battlefield, and there’s even a strong competitor such as Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII reportedly renouncing to a single-player campaign in order to include it.

Apparently, Battlefield V – the next iteration in the DICE-developed first person shooter franchise – won’t follow the same path, as Electronic Arts has just confirmed that the game will be featuring the usual story based campaign mode.

“With our next Battlefield game, the team at DICE is bringing the intensity of combat alive in new and unexpected ways. Every battle is unique, and every mode brings its own challenges, from the way you interact with the environment around you, to compelling single-player stories to the next level of large-scale multiplayer that spans across multiple maps and modes,” EA CEO Andrew Wilson told the investors.

“This will be a deep and fully-featured shooter and ongoing service that will evolve with major new experiences for our community beginning right from launch. Building on the success of Battlefield 1 and taking inspiration from DICE’s core DNA, the new game will advance the state of the art for the franchise, while still delivering the signature gameplay and Battlefield moments that have captivated and grown our global community.”

So, while Wilson hinted at new modes coming to the game, it’s clear that nothing really revolutionary will happen to the next Battlefield title, and perhaps that’s for the better. EA Play kicks off in June with all the details about it.
