Battlefield V has been finally announced and formally presented, and in the wait, for more information to be released at EA Play we can learn more about the principal choices of the developer DICE in terms of design.
One of the things we were more curious about was, and still is, the name of the game. It’s the fifth title in the main Battlefield series, but the first to be named with a Roman number instead of the Arabic. Why?
DICE explained the reason behind this choice in a quick tweet from the official profile of the franchise and, as one could’ve guessed, it’s because of the iconic “V” sign made popular by English Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who had a pivotal role in the victory over the German Nazi forces in World War II.
“V represents ‘V for Victory’”, the Battlefield Twitter account said. “The phrase and sign were popularized by Winston Churchill and used amongst the allies for much of WWII. It’s also why we chose to use the Roman numeral V instead of the number 5 for the title.”
So, mystery solved. Battlefield V is dropping on October 19 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with a few days of early play for EA and Origin Access members, and for those who pre-order it.
