Battlefield 3 is billed as one of the biggest first person shooters of the year. Getting ready to take on Call of Duty this fall, Battlefield 3’s main mission objective in 2011 is to gain marketshare from the Call of Duty franchise by appealing to gamers, with a deeper, richer, first person shooter experience.  Visibility for the just recently announced game has hit all time highs for the franchise with pre-orders already said to have jumped 700% amidst the media blitz since February.

An industry analyst thinks that Battlefield is a great candidate for a yearly release, much like the Call of Duty series.  Mike Hickey told Industry Gamers his thoughts on the process and why he thinks its the natural progression for the title as its popularity grows.

“We suspect [EA] could release a Battlefield franchise game annually, switching between Battlefield and Bad Company versions, similar to how Activision manages their Call of Duty franchise,”

Battlefield 3 is set to release this November on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3.
