It looks like custom firmware is going to have a valuable role for PS Vita users. A new video shows the popular first person shooter, Battlefield 3, on the PlayStation Vita.

This YouTube user has recently shown proof of concept videos that have them playing games like Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 3, and of course Battlefield 3.

Whether or not Sony will battle custom firmware users on the PS Vita like they did on PS3 is yet to be seen. Future firmware updates may not allow the use of custom firmware on the device, but for now it looks like those willing to install the modified firmware will allow players to access games that they own for the PlayStation 3.
