Those of you that are still playing Battlefield 2042 may have woken up this morning and witnessed a very peculiar sight in the Portal mode feature. We are only a couple of weeks into the new year, and DICE – which has been a subsidiary of Electronic Arts since 2006 – has accidentally created a portal bot on their XP farming mode, another mistake by the Battlefield 2042 developers. It was only earlier this week that we at Nerd Stash reported that there would be more patch fixes coming to the most recent Battlefield game.

The developers of the Battlefield 2042 Portal, Ripple Effect, have attempted to debut a few new changes to the game mode, with things like; tiered XP cap systems and the promise of a new scoreboard design in February, but not all the changes have been well received by fans – just take a look at the game’s subreddit. The setup for Portal – which has seen the introduction of a zombie survival mode as well – see’s players fending off waves of AI-controlled soldiers, with each wave supposedly becoming harder and harder. Although Portal experiences allow users to enjoy full XP gain and ribbon unlocks without restraint, this game mode quickly became the hottest XP farming spot in Battlefield 2042. Fans were even sharing tips and tricks for the safest spots to camp in this zombie mode.

Senior design director at Ripple Effect, Justin Wiebe, did apologize to fans on Twitter (although I’m sure fans loved this mistake).

I’m not going to lie, this one shouldn’t have gotten through our review process. I think our desire to create a fun zombies mode clouded our ability to see such a simple thing like the impact it would have on progression. I’m very sorry for the hardship this has caused. https://t.co/01MXOdWGN5

What other problems is Battlefield 2042 facing?

A month after the release of Battlefield 2042, we reported that there would already be a “free weekend” available to customers of December last year. But after recent reports from gaming reporter Tom Henderson, that EA is looking at “all available options” when it comes to the title, with this possibly meaning the game could be completely Free to Play in the not-too-distant future – it isn’t looking too good for EA and their top shooter game at the minute. So, along with countless patch fixes and bot gaming errors, it’s safe to say that the Battlefield 2042 developers’ decision to rush this game into the shops before it was ready could come back to haunt them.

EA is reportedly very disappointed with how Battlefield 2042 has performed and is “looking at all the options” when it comes to the title, this is including looking at Free to Play in some capacity.

I’ll have more on this tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/WWuDpstyqS
