One of Batman’s villains will finally see their efforts pay off. While the Dark Knight’s rogues gallery may get the upper hand at times, Batman always rises and puts an end to their plans. This time, it appears that the Caped Crusader’s most chilling enemy, Mr. Freeze, will succeed this time, but at what cost?

Batman Detective Comics Spoilers

In DC’s Year of the Villain, Lex Luthor has been running around offering gifts of power to many dangerous people. It now seems that Mr. Freeze is a recipient of such an offer. Detective Comics #1011 shows the frigid foe directing minions to capture certain targets unharmed. His wife Nora Fries appears on a monitor, and Victor states that these people have “specific characteristics”. Batman will doubtlessly work to prevent the kidnapping of the victims, putting him at odds with Freeze. However, it appears those efforts will not be enough, as the synopsis for Detective Comics #1012 says it will feature Nora’s return.

Mr. Freeze’s History

Most of Batman’s enemies have psychological trauma, oftentimes simply called crazy. While that is true for a great many of his foes, Victor Fries stands out amongst the group. After his origin was revamped in the ’90s following the Batman: The Animated Series episode “Heart of Ice”, Freeze became a sympathetic character. The story was so critically acclaimed that DC adopted it as Victor Fries’ new backstory. Now more than just a gimmick character, Freeze does not crave power or fame; he simply wants to cure his wife of her illness so they can spend their lives together. Batman is sympathetic toward Victor’s plight but cannot let him harm innocent people.
