Batman: The Animated Series is considered one of the best cartoon shows of this and maybe any other generation.
So, fans will undoubtedly be excited to know that the series is receiving a continuation. This time, however, it will be on the printed page.
Reported in EW, there is a Batman: The Animated Series comic book continuation in the works – and what’s more, a talent that worked on the original show is returning.
Among them, we have Paul Dini and Alan Burnett, who both wrote and produced for the cartoon. Joining this duo is artist Ty Templeton, who, while not being involved with the original show, did draw for the 90’s Batman & Robin Adventures tie-in comic, which was based on the series.
In the words of Paul Dini, the new Batman: TAS comic is as if they “were doing the season you might have seen if we had not put the series aside to do Batman Beyond.”
Indeed, when The New Batman Adventures ended in 1999, Batman Beyond quickly rose to take its place (and was handled by many of the same staff members). While it chronicled an elderly Bruce Wayne mentoring a younger Batman, it did cut its parent show short and left things hanging.
But now, Batman: TAS fans can see what’s next for DCAU’s Bruce Wayne during his Batman heyday. Potential new stories include the exploration of Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor’s relationship and even the introduction of Jason Todd, Deathstroke, and Azrael.
Meanwhile, Burnett teased:
Expect to see Batman: The Adventures Continue digital in April, while the first physical copy will hit comic shop shelves on May 6.
