Early Saturday at DC FanDome the comic giant announced some future plans for The Dark Knight himself. Award-winning screenwriter John Ridley (12 Years A Slave, American Crime) is set to write a limited Batman comic series with artist Nick Derington (Doom Patrol, Batman Universe).

John Ridley gave an exciting insight into his plan for this Batman limited series, “I think it’s a pretty safe bet that if I’m writing Batman, it’s probably a little better than a 47% chance he’s going to be a person of color”. If that’s the case, the Caped Crusader will not be Bruce Wayne for this series.

However, Ridley went on to say that Lucius Fox, head of Wayne Enterprises, will play a big role in his Batman series, “But he [Fox] has a family and this is a family that has secrets, has kept secrets from one another… It’s a little bit different dynamic than the Batman that we’ve always seen.”

DC FanDome is a virtual convention with 24-hours of panels revolving around everything DC. The event kicked off with a panel on Wonder Woman 1984 and will end Sunday afternoon with a panel on The Batman and Suicide Squad. Those looking for more news on Ridley’s comic should check out “the Batman: The Joker War panel at DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse, Saturday, September 12 at 10amPT/1pmET”. As of this writing, the series is set to release in January 2021 and will run for four issues.
