Independent video game developer studio PixFroze and publisher Blowfish Studios have announced the release of Base One, their interstellar colony builder and hardcore space station survival simulator. Launched today, Base One is currently available for the PC and Mac, with PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One versions planned for release later this year.
Base One is billed as a “space station simulator with hardcore survival and RPG mechanics”. Deep in outer space where no one can hear your hammer and drill, you are tasked with building a space station by snapping a variety of modular sections together. You have a crew to keep alive, as well, so you will also be outfitting your station with power, oxygen, heat, and other vital survival necessities. To build the station and its internal technologies, you’ll collect resources from space such as derelict satellites and planets in other star systems. You’ll also encounter other forms of life that may help advance your base by unlocking upgrades and new tech.
Alongside the engaging game mechanics, Base One features a story-driven campaign “that analyzes the impact of interstellar colonization in a reality where corporate interests guide the hand of scientific advancement.” The immersive and challenging campaign scenarios will test you and your crews’ ability to survive through various objectives designed to establish and foster mankind’s presence in galactic space.
Base One has an intuitive and user-friendly modular building system to help ease the aspect of deep space survival, but you will still need to build strategically. Available modules include living quarters, docking bay, probe launching bay, and many more. You also have plenty of tech to employ, such as solar panels and batteries.
