Hoping to join the ranks of Sanrio’s Hello Kitty, Mattel’s Barbie and Polly Pocket characters are slowly making their way into the Roblox Metaverse. Though this is the first time that these characters have officially appeared on the platform, it’s not the first Roblox crossover for Mattel, with the Hot Wheels Open World experience debuting in 2020, followed by the HE-MAN SIM + BATTLE ARENA experience in 2021. To many players’ surprise, however, unlike the Mattel collabs previously mentioned, Barbie and Polly Pocket will not be receiving their own Roblox experiences, and will instead be featured inside of the already popular role-playing experience, Livetopia.
Announced via a tweet from the official Livetopia Twitter account on Sept. 15, 2022, the Polly Pocket crossover event is set to take place from Sept. 16, 2022, to Oct. 14, 2022, and aims to “encourage players to be curious, capable, and tenacious through exploration and experiences that are uniquely Polly.” Those who join this event can look forward to visiting Polly Plaza and not only meeting Polly Pocket and her best friends, Lila and Shani, but also unlocking their own in-game Custom Compacts. Each Friday during this event, a new Custom Compact can be obtained from Polly Plaza for free and then explored alone or with friends.
As Polly Plaza begins to close, the Dreamhouse will just be getting started. From Sept. 30, 2022, to Oct. 28, 2022, players will be able to explore Barbie’s iconic Dreamhouse inside of Livetopia to help the fashionista celebrate the 60 year anniversary of her house’s debut. Similar to the Polly Pocket collab, this event will see an appearance from Barbie herself and likely some of her most notable friends and family members as well. To continue the celebrations, a party will take place inside of the Dreamhouse that will allow players to explore the multiple floors, rooms, and secrets that the house has to offer.
At the time of this article’s publication, it’s unknown if these collabs will bring any free UGC avatar items along with them, though the promise of such is very unlikely. If any free items are announced, however, we will create a guide detailing how to obtain them as soon as possible.
