Watch Bambi Becomes a “Vicous Killing Machine” In This New Horror Retelling
The London-based film production companies ITN Studios and Jagged Edge Productions are back at it again with another horror retelling of an animated classic, this time Bambi. Many may recognize them as the studios behind Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, a slasher film that sees Winnie and Piglet go on a murderous rampage for human flesh after Christopher Robin abandons them for college.
This new Bambi horror film, entitled Bambi: The Reckoning, will be a similar retelling of the classic 1942 Disney film, which itself is based on the 1923 book Bambi, a Life in the Woods. The film will be directed by Scott Jeffery, famous for directing other horror films such as Dragon Fury, The Bad Nun, and The Curse of Humpty Dumpty.
He will reportedly work alongside producer Rhys Frake-Waterfield, who is also directing Winnie-The-Pooh: Blood and Honey. The film will begin production in January 2023, about a month before Blood and Honey’s release on February 15, 2023.
While no specific plot details have been revealed at this time, Jeffrey has shared that the Bambi horror film will see the titular deer go on a similar murderous rampage following the death of his mother, who was killed by a hunter in the original film.
“The film will be an incredibly dark retelling of the 1928 story we all know and love. Finding inspiration from the design used in Netflix’s The Ritual, Bambi will be a vicious killing machine that lurks in the wilderness. Prepare for Bambi on rabies!” Jeffrey said in a statement.
The Ritual is currently available to stream on Netflix.
