Bad Robot Games has formed an in-house development studio. J.J. Abrams’ production company announced its expansion into gaming in 2018. With the creation of its own studio, it has also hired former Valve executive Michael Booth. First reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Booth will act as general manager for the studio’s first title and future releases.

Booth is a major get for Bad Robot Games. The industry vet has worked on many titles for Valve, Blizzard, and EA. These include the Left 4 Dead and CounterStrike series. He also co-founded Turtle Rock Studios, which just showed off its new game, Back 4 Blood, at The Game Awards. At Bad Robot Games, Booth will work under Anna Sweet, who became CEO this past July. In a statement, Booth had this to say:

The Rise and Growth of Bad Robot

J.J. Abrams formed Bad Robot in 2001. The studio has produced many major film and TV projects over the years. These include films in the Mission: Impossible, Star Wars, and Star Trek franchises. On the TV front, it’s produced Lost, Westworld, and Lovecraft Country.

The Bad Robot Games venture formed in 2018 as part of a partnership with Tencent, the Chinese technology conglomerate. The plan is for the studio to create both large-scale and indie games for mobile, PC, and console. However, Booth’s appointment brings no news on what this in-house studio’s first project will be.
