Bad Bunny is one of the world’s hottest stars. Not only is he an internationally chart-topping musician who has successfully crossed over to acting (with appearances in shows like Narcos: Mexico and the upcoming action-thriller film Bullet Train), but he can now add a leading man to his ever-growing resume. At CinemaCon 2022, a movie convention held annually in Las Vegas’ Caesar’s Palace, Sony Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch announced that Bad Bunny will star as the lead in the upcoming Spider-Man spin-off El Muerto, coming to theaters on January 12, 2024.

Get To Know Marvel’s Pro Wrestling Hero

In Marvel comics, El Muerto is the name of a lineage of super-powered wrestlers who are granted powers through mystical masks. These powers include superhuman strength and endurance.

Juan-Carlos Sanchez is the latest inheritance of El Muerto, a Mexican pro-wrestler who specializes in freestyle and grappling. Research suggests that he makes his first appearance in Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Vol 1 # 6. In the comics, El Muerto challenges Spider-Man to a wrestling match and nearly unmasks him until Spider-Man injects him with a paralyzing poison. The two masked heroes eventually join forces to face El Muetro’s arch-nemesis El Dorado, who ultimately escapes before they can defeat him.

Bad Bunny Has Already Proven Himself As A Wrestler

Bad Bunny has already proven his skills as a wrestler, which will certainly come in handy when preparing for this El Muerto role. He famously appears as himself in several WWE segments, including Monday Night Raw, WrestleMania, and Royal Rumble. One animate WWE fan on YouTube declared him “the best celebrity participation WWE ever had.”

As a wrestler, Bad Bunny has faced off against greats like The Miz and even won his first championship match back in February 2021 (WWE’s 24/7 championship, which he eventually traded back to wrestler R-Truth). It’s clear that Bad Bunny has a passion for wrestling; Variety reports that Bad Bunny was thrilled when it was finally announced that he’d be bringing Marvel’s pro wrestling hero to life in Sony’s El Muerto “To bring El Muerto to life is just incredible .. so exciting,”.
