Backpack Hero, following a successful Kickstarter campaign by developer Jaspel, is today announcing an Early Access launch for August 15! With this new and paid version, players can expect plenty of fresh, otherwise unforeseen content including a visual overhaul, and plenty of new items, weapons, enemies, and characters. Take a look at the Steam Wishlist trailer, released in May of this year, below.

Preparing for Adventure With Impeccable Organization Skills

Backpack Hero, as you’ve likely ascertained at this point, is not your typical roguelike. While most roguelikes expect raw skill out of you and learning of enemy movesets, Backpack Hero takes things a bit slower though without a lack of challenge. Taking on the role of a brave adventurer heading into a perilous dungeon, you’ll naturally pick up plenty of powerful loot though with only a simple backpack to carry you through your trip. With only a limited amount of space, you’ll need to use each spot carefully if you’re to make it through this dungeon and back out alive.

But that’s not all. While organizing each item to make the best use of the space you’re given, your placement will affect you as well. After all, if you run into an evil band of furry bandits, what use is a sword way at the bottom of your backpack? Placement is key, as different spaces will bring new effectiveness to the items you have available. You’ll even have situations where empty spaces below certain items could bring immense benefits, though with the tradeoff of fewer potential items. With procedurally generated dungeons to top things off, each run should feel like a puzzle of its own.

I’d love to hear your thoughts though. Will you be picking up the inventory management roguelike Backpack Hero when it releases in Steam Early Access on August 15? Let me know!
