After a week of speedrun marathons, the Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2022 charity event closed yesterday. A total of 3.4 million dollars was raised for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, which would be the largest amount raised in a single event. In addition, AGDQ 2022 would break its history by raising the million in the shortest amount of time.
AGDQ closes out with excellent performances
Streaming from Twitch from January 9th to the 16th, the event maintained its excitement even with the online-only event this year. Managing to see the community come together to witness players showing their skill in the various games over Games Done Quick 2022.
This year AGDQ was particularly notable as several players we able to break world records for speedrunning, including Kena: Bridge of Spirits, broken by InsertLogic (28:35), Pumpkin Jack broken by Jaxler (44:18), and lastly Webbed broken by Shadowthepast (17:21).
In a particular moment, Mitchriz’s speedrun through Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, a game known for its difficulty. This event was notable because Mitchriz attempted the run blindfolded playing by using only audio cues. He would complete the run in over two hours, missing the record held by Just Blind at 1:42.
Speedrun event continues to raise money for charity
Since 2010, Games Done Quick has raised $37 million for partnered charities Prevents Cancer Foundation, Doctors Without Borders, Direct Relief, AbleGamers, Malala Fund, and Organization for Autism Research. The event also partnered with various companies within the gaming industry to bring players AGDQ 2022.
The next Games Done Quick event will be happening later this winter, from February 27th to March 5th. This Games Done Quick event will be the all-women winter speedrunning event called Frost Fatales.
The following winter event will raise money for the Malala Fund, a charity to give girls access to education worldwide. Players will get to enjoy more Games Done Quick 2022 events when they return in the summer.
