After speculation and rumors leading fans to all sorts of wild expectations, Obsidian Entertainment has finally shown its newest project, Avowed. Announced on the Xbox Games Showcase live stream this morning, it was among many other reveals from the same developer as well. While other projects have been lead and started by other teams, Avowed is seemingly the next big step in Obsidian Entertainment’s grand developing scheme. Obsidian is known for leading their fans on when it comes to anticipated projects. Not to mention how interesting it is to see developers try to make a niche for themselves in a market dominated by a sole publisher. Now with The Outer Worlds finally in player’s hands, they are forging ahead in a new direction to recapture the mysticism of first-person RPGs.

Set in a war-ridden world and atmosphere, the trailer only shows off a brief glimpse of what this first-person RPG will look like on launch. This trailer seems to be in response to last year’s Elder Scrolls 6 announcement by Bethesda who has been reluctant to share more since the announcement. With Obsidian Entertainment’s reputation for such bold titles like Fallout: New Vegas, given a budget on the scale of the next big fantasy experience. The game seems to be taking a page out of FromSoftware Inc’s Dark Souls as the art direction and overall tone of the title is very similar to what fans have come to recognize as a FromSoftware staple.

With much anticipation about everything Obsidian has to offer, today was a clear and resounding message to their fans about the quality of their titles. These past few years have shown how impressive and valuable their game design is to the overall landscape of gaming, with a new title like Avowed, they have a chance to bring something unique and different. With no set release date as of yet, it’s clear the title is still a work in progress to truly showcase a new fantasy perspective from developing veterans Obsidian Entertainment.
